Assisted suicide: law to be decriminalised 'by back door' from next week

Final rules set out by the Crown Prosecution Service will make it clear that those who help others end their lives are unlikely to face court if they acted out of compassion.

However the factors against prosecution are likely to be altered from existing draft guidance, after it was claimed that they would leave the most vulnerable members of society at greater risk while providing immunity to spouses regardless of their motives.

I can see the sense in this, biut it's a relaxing that needs to be done very carefully ... Allowing people to kill other people is a very dangerous road to go down ...

Actually laws need to be changed regarding the prescription of pain medication. Doctors are harassed by the authorities if they prescribe large amounts of pain medication in the USA. Terminally ill patients become resistant to pain medication and need larger and larger doses to deal with the pain--but doctors are afraid to prescribe more. They fear prosecution. This needs to be addressed, first.

This didn't occur to me. What a sad -- and agonizing -- standoff.

Are there other ways for the terminally ill to get the medication they need?

Also, I'm curious, aren't the doctors' fears sometimes justified: don't some people actually use their painkillers to commit suicide, either alone or by proxy?
